J.L. Industries offers a range of specialty products
including fire extinguishers and cabinets, other
fire and emergency air cabinets, metal access panels
and roof hatches, dirt control floor mats and
gratings, and detention specialties.

in Commerce, CA, Thomas Enterprises in Ft. Myers,
FL, our 3 warehouses in Pennsylvania, Georgia and
Texas, J.L. offers the largest stock of fire
cabinets and access panels in the industry. J.L.

most popular cabinets from any of our four

Our involvement with such organizations as Door and
Hardware Institute (DHI), Construction

DIVISON 10 44 00 FIRE PROTECTION
Our original product line consists of high quality
fire extinguishers, cabinets, and accessories, which
we have provided for 60 years. Our complete range of
fire extinguishers means that virtually every
requirement for portable fire protection can be met.
J.L. offers the widest variety of fire equipment
cabinets in the industry. Our standard line includes
nine different sizes, five different materials
(steel, aluminum, stainless steel, bronze, and
brass), six different recessed and semi-recessed
designs, and dozens of different door styles, adding
up to more than 4,000 distinct models. All J.L.
extinguisher and cabinet part numbers are
complete numbers, unlike those used by most
manufacturers. The seven-digit sequence of the
cabinet model number describes everything: size,
material, trim mounting, door style, and glazing.
This eliminates the need to describe needed features
in longhand and can, therefore, reduce costly errors
in the spec-writing process.
In late 1990, we introduced the first fire-rated
extinguisher cabinet to the market - - FIRE-FX™
(U.S. Patent No. 5, 171,079). No longer must an
architect and building owner wonder if the integrity
of a firewall has been compromised by the
installation of a non-rated cabinet. The FIRE-FX™ is
fabricated in accordance with the Uniform Building
Code Standard 43 - 6 (ASTM E 814-83) for membrane
penetration fire stops, and is labeled for one-hour
combustible and two-hour non-combustible fire
barrier wall systems.
J.L. INDUSTRIES' ADAC Option for cabinets allows you
to semi-recess fire protection equipment into thin
walls, and yet still complies with the new code
requirements mandated by the "American with
Disabilities Act of 1990." ADAC offers a 4" cabinet
projection - - the maximum allowed in most corridor
areas - - and enables installation into walls as
thin as 2 1/8" for our popular 1000 size. Included
with the 4" trim is a flush pull recessed into the
face of the door, which ensures ease of operation.
J.L. INDUSTRIES' standard cabinets featuring
trimless design, flat trim, 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 2 ½",
and 3" return trims also meet the ADA projection
criteria. This includes all Cavalier and all Embassy
cabinet models. Clear VU cabinets, which meet the
ADA projection criteria, are listed in Royal Blue
throughout the Sweet's Catalog.
DIVISION 08 31 13 METAL ACCESS PANELS
We now offer an access panel which is fire rated for
both wall and ceiling applications. The universal
Model FD features an Underwriters Laboratories 1 1/2
hour label for walls and a Warnock Hersey label for
the three-hour non-combustible and one-hour
combustible floor/ceiling assemblies. We also
manufacture - - and stock in Bloomington and Los
Angeles - - hundreds of non-rated panels in steel
and stainless steel to suit various wall materials
as well as a line of competitively priced galvanized
steel and aluminum roof hatches. From sheet rock or
masonry to plaster or ceiling tile, from 8" x 8" to
48" x 48" and any custom size in between, J.L. has a
model to cover your opening.
DIVISION 12 48 13 DIRT CONTROL FOOT MAT AND GRATINGS
These high quality floor coverings not only add
elegance to the entryway of any building but also
reduce maintenance and cleaning costs by keeping
dirt isolated. We offer carpet, vinyl, serrated
aluminum, and two different abrasive tread materials
in a variety of colors and anodized aluminum
finishes. Drain pan applications, roll-up type
surface mats, and several variations between are
available in whatever dimensions and custom
configurations you care to choose. We have added a
complete line of stainless steel gratings along with
our new ¾" roll-up aluminum grates to offer even
more flooring options. LEED MR credits are available
for most products in this line.
DIVISION 11 19 00 DETENTION SPECIALTIES
For fifteen years, we have offered a line of heavy
gauge steel and stainless steel cabinets and access
panels for detention facilities. Both cabinets and
panels are available with several different lock
options, from doors prepped to receive lock
cylinders (ideal for those master-keying situations)
to doors which include heavy-duty prison dead bolt
locks.
DIVISON 10 43 00 LIFE SAFETY PRODUCTS
J.L. Industries Life Safety Products includes the
following components: AED's (Automated External
Defibrillators), LifeStart™ Series AED Cabinets,
Olympus Series AED/Emergency Oxygen Cabinets and
Emergency Oxygen.

DIVISION 07 72 00 ROOF HATCHES, SAFETY RAIL, SMOKE
VENTS, FLOOR DOORS
Standard and custom sizes are available for all
models. UL listed and FM approved fire vents,
aluminum and galvanized roof hatches, guttered and
non-gutter aluminum floor doors, double door
equipment hatches are available. Skylights feature
translucent and clear single and double bubble
configurations. Our rail guard Saf-T-Hatch System
meets OSHA standards for protection of open hatches
and vents.
