MODELJL-CP/JL-DP DEEP PIT
FRAME
IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY THATTHE
FRAMING MEMBERS BE INSTALLED ACCURATELY, IN A LEVEL PLANE. WE CANNOT BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR PROBLEMS CAUSED BY IN CORRECT FRAME INSTALLATION.
1. A recess must be provided in the
floor at the location of the grating. The recess must be deep enough to allow
construction of the desired pit, but no less than 4 1/4’ (10.8 cm), to allow
cross supports to fit under the grating. The length and width should be 6’ (1
5.2 cm) greater than frame dimensions, which allows room to maneuver the frame
into position, clearance for anchor bolts, and sufficient mortar strength to
support the frame and grating assembly.
2. Using the hex nuts provided, install
the 1/4" x 3 (0.6 cm x 7.6 cm) anchor bolts in frame channels. Space for two
foot intervals on all sides of the frame.
3. Assemble the frame sections. Insert
1/4 - 20 x 1" (2.5cm) self-threading screws through the prepunched holes in the
ends of the plain side frame sections, and attach with the remaining screws.
Tighten all screws when finished.
If optional drain pan is used — Lay the
frame upside down on a level surface. Lay the pan sections on the bottom of the
frame in the ledge provided. Place the 1/8" x 1/2" (0.3 cm x 1.3 cm) aluminum
reinforcement strip on top of the pan material, a section at a time, and attach
both to the frame with the 1/8" (0.3 cm) pop rivets. Rivet pan sections together
if necessary. Caulk all seams.
4. Place assembled frame into opening
at desired location. Shim as necessary to level frame to final height of
finished floor surface. Make any drain or trap connections.
5. Pour cement mortar around edges of
frame and trowel well so that cement will provide proper support for the frame
and grating. Pour cement in center of assembly to form concrete pit if
needed.
6. Before mortar is set-up, be sure the
sides of the frame are straight, and corners at the correct angles. Check inside
dimensions of frame against drawing measurements at several places to be sure
size is correct. REMEMBER — the grate is made to fit snuggly into the frame
according to the drawing dimensions. Use spreaders if necessary to hold frame at
correct dimensions.
7. When cement has hardened, plywood or
some other material should be installed in the recess to protect frame edges
from damage prior to installation of
grate.
