1. A recess must be provided at the location of
the grate, 3" (7.6 cm) deep, and 6" (15.2 cm) wider and longer than the frame.
This allows room to maneuver the frame, and clearance for the anchor
bolts.
2. Using the hex nuts provided, install the 114" x 3(0.6
cm x 7.6 cm) anchor bolts in frame channels. Space for two-foot intervals on all
sides of the frame.
3. Assemble the frame sections. Insert 1/4 - 20 x
111(2.5 cm) self-threading screws through the prepunched holes in the
ends of the plain sections of the frame, into screw bosses on ledge frame
sections. Tighten all screws when finished.
If optional drain pan is used — Lay the frame
upside down on a level surface, Lay the pan sections on the bottom of the frame
in the ledge provided. Place the 1/8" x 1/2" (0.3 cm x 1.3 cm) aluminum
reinforcement strip on top of the pan material, a section at a time, and attach
both to the frame with the 1/8" (0.3 cm) pop rivets. Rivet pan sections together
if necessary. Caulk all seams.
4. Place assembled frame into the opening. Shim as necessary to
level frame to final height of finished floor surface.
5. Pour cement mortar around edges of frame, and in the center
in sufficient quantity to be level with the inside lip of frame.
6. With a board slightly shorter than inside lip of frame,
smooth and level mortar. Care must be taken to assure the grating will lie flat
and level, and at the correct height.
7. Before mortar is set-up, be sure the sides of
the frame are straight, and corners at the correct angles. Check inside
dimensions of frame against drawing measurements at several places to be sure
size is correct. REMEMBER — the grate is made to fit snuggly into the frame
according to the drawing dimensions. Use spreaders if necessary to hold frame at
correct dimensions.
8. When cement has hardened, plywood or some other material
should be installed in the recess to protect frame edges from damage. Prior to
installation of grate, remove this material and carefully clean recess to insure
grating sits flat in it.
