9/8" Stainless Steel Frame—Deep Pit
Application
It is absolutely necessary the framing members be
installed accurately, in a level plane. We cannot be responsible for
problems caused by incorrect frame installation.
1. If grating has been shipped installed within the
frame, remove grating from frame by removing hold-down screws with an
allen wrench. If there are multiple sections of grading, be sure sections are
marked to insure proper installation. Grating sections are not
interchangeable.
2. Grease hold-down screws to prevent bonding into
concrete. Place hold-down screws through the threaded holes in frame and extend
at least 1/2". This will allow the frame screws to be reinstalled when concrete
has hardened.
3. To help facilitate concrete finishing in the
bottom of the pit, remove cross supports from the frame by removing alignment
screws at each end.
4. Form 1-1/4" minimum depth recess below top of
horizontal leg of frame, slope as required to drain or sump. Minimum depth from
finished floor elevation is 2-3/4".
5. Set top of
frame at finished floor elevation or provide recess as required for floor
covering. Block securely in place to avoid movement during concrete placing and
finishing operations. Before mortar is setup, be sure the sides of the frame are
straight, and corners at the correct angles. Check inside dimensions of frame
against drawing measurements at several places to be sure size is correct.
REMEMBER—the grate is made to fit snugly into the frame according to the drawing
dimensions. Use spreaders if necessary to hold frame at correct
dimensions.
6. After concrete has cured, back off greased
hold-down screws and reinstall cross supports. Shim them at 1’O" intervals,
leaving a maximum gap of 3" between the end of the cross supports and the first
shims. Anchor cross supports to concrete at all shim locations using anchors
provided.
7. Install grating in frame as follows:
a. Place stainless steel screws in all hold-downs on
grate sections. Use plastic washers provided to hold screws in lock-downs before
putting grates in recess. DO NOT attempt to put screws in by prying apart wires
and installing from the top of the grating.
b. Reinstall grate sections in proper location (refer
to shop drawing), and tighten hold-down
screws.
